As a product of the renowned American watch brand, Fossil, the Nate chronograph JR1401 has caught the attention of many watch enthusiasts with its unique design and features. In this review, we’ll cover every aspect of the watch, including its quality, features, size, and whether it’s worth buying or not.

But before we dive into the review of the Fossil JR1401, let us give you a quick overview of the company. Fossil was founded by Tom Kartsotis in 1984, and in 1985, the first Fossil brand watches were introduced. Since then, the company has been producing high-quality watches with various features. While Fossil also produces lifestyle accessories, it is best known for its watches. The company is headquartered in Richardson, Texas, United States, and has branches in over 380 locations across 130 countries worldwide.

Fossil’s watches are divided into several collections. The Fossil JR1401 is a part of the Nate chronograph collection.

Let’s take a closer look at the watch.

Fossil JR1401 Case

The round black case of the watch is crafted from stainless steel and features oversized lugs that give it a bold appearance. With a diameter of approximately 50mm and a thickness of 13mm, the case is suitable for larger wrists. It also boasts a matte black unidirectional bezel that rotates anticlockwise. The bezel is marked with Arabic numerals at a 5-digit interval and features teeth that make it easy to grip and rotate.

The watch features a pull-push mechanism crown, located at the 3 o’clock position, with chronograph pushers on both sides. Crown guards are in place to protect the crown from damage. When you pull the crown, you’ll have two positions to choose from: the first one is for modifying the date, and the second is for changing the time. Additionally, the solid screw-down case back of the watch is imprinted with relevant information about its features and specifications.

Fossil JR1401 Dial

Moving on to the dial, you’ll find a textured black surface with three subdials located at 3, 6, and 9 o’clock.  The subdial at 3 o’clock shows the 24-hour time, while the other two are used for the chronograph function. The subdial at 6 o’clock measures seconds and the subdial at 9 o’clock measures minutes for the chronograph. To activate the chronograph, simply use the upper pusher located near the crown, and to reset it to zero, use the lower pusher.

For timekeeping, the watch features gray Arabic numerals at 3, 6, 9, and 12 o’clock, and stick hour markers elsewhere. The small minute markers are visible between the hour markers, giving the dial a clean and minimalist look. Moreover, the date window is conveniently located between 4 and 5 o’clock, making it easy to keep track of the date. And to ensure durability, the scratch-resistant mineral crystal protects the dial from damage.

Fossil JR1401 Bracelet

The Fossil JR1401 comes with a stainless steel Oyster bracelet that is well-polished and has a shiny look. The bracelet has a length of approximately 8 inches and a width of 24mm, but you can easily adjust it to fit your wrist size by removing links. The bracelet’s deployment clasp ensures a secure and comfortable fit, making it an excellent choice for daily wear.

Special Features

  • The Fossil JR1401 uses a quartz movement.
  • It has a water resistance of up to 50 meters (165 feet), which means it can withstand a brief immersion in water.

Imperfections

  • The numbers and hands should have been a little more luminescent because they are difficult to see in a dimly lit room.
  • The watch has a mineral crystal, which has lower scratch resistance than sapphire glass but is acceptable at this price.

Final Words

In conclusion, the Fossil JR1401 from the Nate chronograph collection is an excellent choice for anyone in the market for a high-quality watch that doesn’t break the bank. With its durable stainless steel case, quartz movement, and water resistance, it’s a reliable and stylish option. While it may not compete with more expensive brand watches, it certainly holds its own at this price point.
