Examining the case further, you’ll notice that the top part of the lugs boasts a brushed finish, seamlessly transitioning into a thin chamfered edge connected to the highly polished side. Additionally, the lugs curve slightly downwards and have drilled holes for easy strap changes.

Furthermore, the bezel boasts a double row of coined edges and a distinct new material for the bezel insert, which is made entirely of Seiko’s proprietary Hardlex. This material offers superior scratch resistance compared to standard aluminum inserts and has a glossy appearance similar to ceramic.

The numerals on the bezel are a burnt orange hue, while the upper half is solid black and the bottom half has a subtle transitional effect, adding an extra aesthetic characteristic. Moreover, the bezel is bi-directional and moves smoothly while remaining firmly in place, but it does not have a click mechanism.

The Dial:

The Seiko 5 Sports SSK005 GMT features a striking and vibrant design. Its goldish orangish dial, adorned with guilt details, immediately catches the eye. The watch feels different from the brand’s regular SKX models, with a design that is both unique and refreshing.

This watch has a Cyclops window that some people love and others hate. We personally find it charming and practical. However, some people might think that the date window is set too deep below the crystal, leaving empty space around it when viewed through the magnifier.

Despite this minor concern, the dial reflects light in an interesting manner, adding depth and character to the watch. Similarly, the 24-hour markings on the outer rim of the dial and the lume-applied hour indices contribute to the watch’s overall appeal.  Finally, the flat glass protecting the dial is made of Hardlex crystal, which is known for improved scratch resistance compared to mineral crystal, although it is not as durable as sapphire crystal.

Note: Alongside the orange SSK005, there are two other variations of this watch on the market. One features a blue dial and has earned the nickname “The Blueberry,” while the other boasts a more traditional black dial with a red GMT hand.

The Bracelet

The jubilee bracelet is made up of a combination of brushed and polished links, giving it a sturdy build. It tapers from 22 millimeters to 18 millimeters at the clasp and has polished sides. The four micro-adjustment slots make it easy to achieve a perfect fit.

When you open the branded flip-lock latch, you’ll find a pressed clasp that’s typical of lower-end Seiko models. However, we’re impressed by the upgrade to solid links, even though it might not be as heavy as a stainless steel bracelet from a higher-end brand. This improvement is certainly noteworthy.

Note: If you’re looking for a different look, this watch can also be paired with straps or NATO-style bands to create a personalized style.

Water Resistance:

As a sports watch, the Seiko 5 Sports SSK005 GMT offers 100 meters of water resistance. This makes the watch suitable for various light water activities including swimming and snorkeling. However, it is not advisable for diving purposes

Movement and Performance:

Flipping the watch over reveals a display case back, showcasing the in-house Seiko 4R34 24-jewel movement. This movement offers automatic and manual winding options, hackability, vibrates at 21,600 beats per minute, and provides a generous 41-hour power reserve. Additionally, the 4R34 movement incorporates a GMT 24-hour hand complication.
